Bursary 16-19
The 16 – 19 Bursary Fund is intended for students who are in most need of financial support.
All students may apply for a bursary (non-discretionary and discretionary). Bursaries are intended for students who are in most need of financial student support and the eligibility criteria reflects this intention.
Both the non-discretionary and discretionary bursary are designed to support students in overcoming individual financial barriers to participation. No student will be automatically awarded a set amount of funding without an assessment of their level of financial need.
What does the bursary support?
The funds are intended to assist with expenditure that is directly related to school life including transport, study resources, meals while at school, course-related trips and university open days. The bursary is not able to support costs unrelated to education, such as living costs, mentoring or tutoring, counselling, or extra-curricular activities.
Harrogate Grammar School’s bursary policy is informed by the ESFA’s 16 to 19 Bursary Fund guide 2024 to 2025.
Bursary fund groups
The 16-19 Bursary Fund will be targeted at two qualifying groups:
- Students with a low household income.
- Students who are in care; care leavers; on income support or receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance. These students will receive a bursary of £1,200 a year.
The value of the bursary awards to students in this group is dependent upon the number of students that apply
